Aquarium Fish Swimming Sideways

May 10, 2012 - Hello, I have a 55 gallon tank which we recently set up a week ago. The tank had been sitting, unused (but still full of water and with filters running) for 3 months. Last week we decided we wanted to have fish in it again, but we ran tests and the nitrate/ammonia levels were off the charts. May 4, 2012 - Okay, so this is what happened. While we were sleeping the aquarium had a under and all the water spilled out. Then the fish were just sitting there without water, good thing when my auntie woke up they tried helping them. They survived, but 3 died so far. One of the male Jewel cichlids is swimming sideways? He's breathing but he's just sitting there sideways? Even though I put him up with a stick he still goes sideways. What do you think is the problem? And what can I do to my fishes...
